Abstract:

This report provides a unique look into the needs and wants of Asian consumers for 3G mobile applications. It researches consumer opinion in China, Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia for 3G services and applications.

With 3G technology, the paradigm shift from voice to content becomes the primary business model for operators and content providers.  In Asia, considerable a number of service providers are rolling out or planning for 3G services. In Singapore, M1, Singtel, and Starhub are offering 3G mobile services. In Hong Kong, Hutchison's 3 was the early 3G provider. In Malaysia, Maxis is aggressively readying its 3G service and Celcom launched in May 2005. In China, 3G trails continue and continue, with probable commercial launches in 2006.

Between the 3G license fees and the CAPEX spending on 3G infrastructure, significant sums have been deployed...but the offerings provided on these networks still are not all that appealing to the consumer. The marketing and advertising campaigns are focusing on the 3G benefits of video conferencing, video clips, and music downloads. But is this really what consumers want? Or is it simply only what can be provided just now?

APRG has recently completed region's first in-depth user analysis on 3G applications and provides a timely perspective on what the mobile consumer wants and needs in a 3G service. This research report provides an understanding of Asian mobile consumers needs and wants - which will allow the service provider to create a wireless application strategy that will generate appropriate revenues and consumer loyalty.
